What to do if your laptop or other equipment is lost or stolen
- Theft–Call the police to report the equipment stolen and immediately report it to the Service Desk.
- Lost–Immediately report lost equipment to the Service Desk.
Tips to reduce the risk of a data breach
- If you are removing a laptop from your office, do not make stops between the office and your destination, leaving the laptop unattended.
- If you know that you need to stop before your ultimate destination, place the laptop out of sight, for example, in the trunk or under a blanket before you leaving. Or consider bringing the laptop into your final destination with you.
- Regularly check your hard drive, and remove any documents containing personal information. If you are offline and forced to save to the hard drive, make sure to transfer that information to the proper storage location at your first opportunity.
- Delete expired or irrelevant documents regularly.
